The Refuge

There is a refuge from chaos and strife,
Where all can receive abundant life.
A place where peace and joy prevail;
And all are embraced, even when they fail.

This refuge is built on intimate love,
Sealed by the Son of God above.
The King of kings and Lord of lords;
Who redeems and saves us, heals and restores.

But how will people ever come to know
This is a place where they can go,
Unless we live to show the way
By being God’s expression every day?

The living refuge is alive and well,
Standing against the gates of Hell.
Pointing the way so all come in,
To the Refuge where they are born again.

Chaos may increase and the storms will brew,
But peace abides in God most true.
Let us give thanks to His great Name,
Yesterday, today, forever the same.

One day, many years ago, I died.
Jesus came into my heart and I was born again.  My life is now hidden in Him.
My old self was removed; I was given new clothes:  Compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, love; a garment of praise, beauty for ashes, a crown of joy.
Now, as a daughter of the Most High, a member of Christ’s Body, I live a life that is different from the world.  Instead of holding grudges or getting revenge, I forgive.  Peace rules my heart; anger, worry, bitterness and malice have no place there.  Society’s values no longer govern my thinking and choices; God’s commandments are my foundation.
I, along with all of my brothers and sisters in Christ, am different; set apart to be and live like Jesus, in the power of the Holy Spirit.
This is the way of Your people, oh God, by Your grace.  Amen.

Based on verses in Colossians 3:
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all. Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly
as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Because God is omniscient:  Nothing ever catches Him by surprise; He never has to say, “Hm, I didn’t think of that…”
Because God is omnipotent:  The King of kings and Lord of lords has all power over all forces, principalities and entities; in Heaven, on Earth and throughout the entire universe…
Because God is love:  He is the friend that sticks closer than a brother; not even a sparrow can fall from the sky without being noticed by Him; the very hairs of your head are numbered by Him…
Because GOD IS,
All is well.

Your Kingdom come on Earth, oh Lord;
Your loving will be done;
Until the day when all knees bow
Before your Holy Son.

Your Kingdom come on Earth, oh Lord;
Until your righteous ways
Overtake all ungodly desire
And hearts are filled with praise.

Your Kingdom come on Earth, oh Lord;
Until the full release
Of all good things that come from you;
Your love, your joy and peace.

“Let not your heart be troubled…” (John 14:1)

Jesus, Prince of Peace, I receive you with joyful, devoted love.  I confess that I am utterly in need of you:  What you say and do; your very presence that fills my soul, until my heart is no longer troubled.

There are so many things that could undo me; that can really throw me for a loop.  You, however, give me peace that is from Heaven.  There is nothing like it on Earth; no substitute or comparable solution.

Jesus, you are the Alpha and Omega, my Source and Goal.  In you I live, move and have my being.  Wherever I go, help me to recognize your presence and spread this wonderful peace, until the very atmosphere around me changes and your Kingdom is more evident.

Make your people leaders in every nation.  Let us be climate changers.  Give us vision, wisdom, words and direction that fit our standing as citizens of your Kingdom, working as ambassadors on Earth.

Thank you.  Amen.

Fill me with blessings, Lord;
Your Peace, hope and love;
Joy beyond measure;
Wisdom from above.
Fill me with blessings, Lord,
Your glorious light
That draws people in
To know your delight.
Fill me with blessings, Lord,
So that I can pour
Them out on others;
Then, come receive more.
Fill me with blessings, Lord,
For all that I meet,
Till the world is full
Of your presence sweet.

I will praise You, oh Lord!
I choose to acknowledge Your goodness,
Even when everything
And everyone around me
Challenge that reality.

My praise might be quiet,
Tinged with doubt, confusion or sorrow;
In tones of blue and gray
As confidence and hope wane;
I will declare Your goodness.

My song rises to you;
I will praise You with a joyful heart
When prosperity reigns
And I experience peace;
You are good in all seasons!

Jesus, the Hope for all who are broken:
In depression or sorrow;
Alone and afraid;
He is the way to a brighter tomorrow;
His love for you is ever displayed.

Jesus, the Answer for all on the Earth:
Who labor, study or play;
Who guard and defend;
He is the Author of life in every way;
Healer, Redeemer, Shepherd and Friend.

Jesus, the Prince of Peace to every soul:
Whether resting or in strife
Or seeking His Face;
He alone is the Way, the Truth and the Life;
Thanks be to Jesus, Fountain of Grace.

I need God most;
I experience him best
With others or alone;
At work or at rest.
In the valleys and canyons,
Where shadows grow long;
High on a mountain
When I’m filled with a song.
And on the plateau,
Where boredom seems to reign;
I need God’s presence
in joy and in pain.

I call on God’s name
Any time, day or night;
In moments of peace;
If I’ve had a great fright.
As I celebrate victory;
If I’m feeling deep loss;
When I make new plans,
And am counting the cost.
In the darkest of hours;
The happiest times.
Living in God’s presence
Makes my soul shine.
